Shirasaya Making

Shirasaya Making
白鞘作り

Shirasaya is also known as resting scabbard. It is usually made of Japanese honoki (magnolia) wood for long-term storage of swords. I sometimes also use Australian wood as honoki can be difficult to source.

Cost Estimate

Katana: $600 - $800

Wakizashi: $400 - $600

Tanto: $300 - $400

The above costs are for rough estimation only. The actual costs can vary depending on the size, steel and condition of the sword.

Polishing stones

All my polishing work is done strictly by hand using Japanese polishing stones in traditional methods.

I generally do not polish high-value nihonto for collector-grade art polish. Please contact other polishers who are specialised in art polish.

I also offer signature translation service free of charge.

I am based in Sydney, Australia
